Description:

This bullet mould was used to cast round lead bullets for a four bore flintlock carbine gun, which Burns would have used in the course of his duties as an Excise Officer.

 

The arms of the mould would be closed and held together, and moulten lead poured into the cavity and left to cool.  The arms would then be opened and the lead ball, weighing a quarter of a pound or 113 grams, would be released.
