Jacobite & Catholic Reliquary

18th Century Georgian Period
Date:
1745-1750
Description:

It is alleged that this box was given to Clementina Walkinshaw by Prince Charles as a gift in 1745.  However at least one other identical box is known, and it is possible that these were produced in quantity as Jacobite souvenirs.

Circular tin box decorated all over with the Stewart tartan in enamel paint.  It has a hidden lid bearing a half-full size portrait of Prince Charles Edward Stewart.  Below this there are relics, fixed to the base of the box and labelled.
