National Museums Scotland

Description:
National Museums Scotland is Scotland's national museum service. NMS care for many of Scotland's museum collections of national and international importance, from fossils showing evidence of the earliest forms of life, to the rich artefact collections representing other world cultures. Material evidence of Scottish history and culture from the earliest times to the present day has been collected and preserved for the future and all collections are presented to the public at 6 sites:

National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh
National War Museum, Edinburgh
National Museum of Costume, Dumfriesshire
National Museum of Rural Life, East Kilbride
National Museum of Flight, East Lothian
National Museums Collection Centre, Edinburgh

One of these sites, the National Museum of Costume, is located in the south-west. Other collection items of significance to the history of the area are contained within National Museums Scotland collections. A few key items are presented here and demonstrate the shared links between NMS and the wider collections of the south-west.
