The Future Museum project is one of several projects throughout
Scotland funded by the Regional Development Challenge Fund which
was established by the Scottish Museums Council and the Scottish
Executive in December 2003.
The RDCF aims to develop the capacity and sustainability of the
museum sector through active partnerships. The funding will enable
museums to create active partnerships across local authority
boundaries, between local authority and independent museums and
with the national museums. The funding gives museums the
opportunity to work creatively with other partners to build
significant projects which will bring a range of benefits to museum
users of all ages and to build new audiences.
The projects will help museums to forge alliances at strategic
levels, to become centres for lifelong learning, to contribute to
building the tourist market and to fulfil their potential as
centres of cultural and creative activity.
