Frank Brangwyn was born in Bruges, the son of a tapestry designer. He moved to England to take up an apprenticeship with the designer and craftsman, William Morris. He became a very successful mural painter and a series of murals celebrating the achievements of the British Empire at the Guildhall in Swansea are considered to be his masterpiece. His work was very popular in America.
