Dr Werner Kissling: A Retrospective

Mills, Dumfries and Galloway

'Farm Windmill, Shortrig Farm, Hoddom, Dumfriesshire, 1977

The surviving large tower windmill must have preceded the horsemill alongside it. It probably dates from the end of the eighteenth century. Both horse power and wind power were used for threshing. The threshing machine stood in the adjoining octangular building.

Duncow. A good example of an early tower mill dating from the late seventeenth century. A massive structure with a marked batter.
