Ayrshire Needlework

Child's day cap

Description:
Childrens' caps were often worked on fine linen cambric, as it was cooler than cotton.  The decorated crown could be bought separately, and the cap made up at home.  Day caps were often intricately embroidered, but night caps were generally of plain cambric.
