Kilmarnock

Like many former industrial towns in South West Scotland, Kilmarnock in East Ayrshire has an array of buildings in different architectural styles that tell the history of the town. As well as mixed vernacular designs in homes across Kilmarnock, the town has many examples of Neo-Classical archtecture, as seen in the porticos and pillars of The Dick Institute and the neighbouring War Memorial. In the post-war period, the need for housing also brought modernist and brutalist buildings for workplaces and homes across the town. Furthermore, the town's Dean Castle, with its history spanning centuries, has stood through many architectural styles in its ruin and many restorations and additions.
