Mauchline ware casket

This wooden box in the shape of a casket features a large oval sepia photograph on the lid, depicting the "HIIGH STREET, DUNBAR".  The box is lined with dark green velvet and the base has bright blue embossed paper pasted on the base.   W & A Smith of Mauchline, Ayrshire developed the manufacture of transfer printed treen, or wooden ware which became highly popular as gifts and souvenirs.  Later, they used photographs instead of transfers.
