Mauchline ware egg timer

Small hour glass egg timer containing grains of red sand, mounted in a wooden frame.  On one end of the wooden frame there is an oval sepia photograph depicting a church. The inscription underneath reads "ESTABLISHED CHURCH, KINROSS".   W & A Smith of Mauchline, Ayrshire developed the manufacture of transfer printed treen, or wooden ware which became highly popular as gifts and souvenirs. Later, they used photographs instead of transfers.
