King Edward VII

King Edward VII was born 9th of November 1841 as Albert Edward, the eldest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. He was given the titles Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Rothesay, Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Duke of Saxony, Prince of Wales, Earl of Chester, Earl of Dublin, Knight of the Garter and Knight of the Thistle. Edward would renounce his title of Duke of Saxony for his younger brother Prince Alfred. Edward was known as playboy as a result Queen Victoria did not allow Edward an active role in the running of the country until 1898. Edward was seen as the first truly constitutional British sovereign and the last sovereign to wield effective political power.
