Robert the Bruce
Robert the Bruce was born 11 July 1274. His grandfather was a
claimant to the Scottish throne during a succession dispute in
1220-1292. Robert supported the William Wallace uprising against
the English. In 1298 he became a guardian of Scotland with John
Comyn. In 1306 Robert fought with Comyn and stabbed him in a church
in Dumfries. On the 27th of March Robert was crowned
King. In June of 1314, Robert fought a larger English army under
Edward II at the Battle of Bannockburn. Robert won this battle
which resulted in the re-establishment of an independent Scottish
monarchy. This victory resulted in the Declaration of Arbroath.
King Robert the Bruce died on 7th of June
1329.
