Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle sits on top of an ancient volcanic rock towering 260 feet above the city. Edinburgh Castle has been occupied as early as 900BC. The castle would change into a royal fortress in 1124 under the reign of David I. From 1296 to 1341 the castle was the site of a battle between the English and the Scottish. The castle grew in importance under the Stuart dynasty, turning it from a fortress into a permanent home for the royal family. The last monarch to stay in the castle was Charles I in 1633.
