West Princes Street Gardens

West Prince's Street Gardens is a public garden, below Edinburgh Castle. The gardens were created in two phases in 1770s and 1820s. The gardens cover 29 acres and were originally privately owned by "the Princes Street Proprietors" who overlooked them, in 1816, from their house on the western half of the street. This would change in 1876 when the council would reacquire the ground for public use.
