The Journey Beyond

Fragment of Coptic textile

Description:
The early Christians of Egypt were buried in their everyday clothes, and this piece may come from a garment such as a belt. The hot, dry conditions of Egypt have helped to preserve the colours and fibres. This cloth possibly dates to around the 5th c. AD.
