The Journey Beyond

Stela of Hu

Period:
New Kingdom
Description:

This stela shows two gods of Memphis on the right, Ptah and the lioness-headed Sekhmet, facing Amun and Mut of Thebes on the left, above the deceased man with his family. Offering tables piled with provisions are depicted, and the winged sun disk is at the top, representing protection.
The stela comes from the temple of Ptah at Memphis, excavated by the British School of Archaeology in Egypt under Flinders Petrie, and was purchased by the Royal Museum of Scotland in 1908.
