The Journey Beyond

Stela of Neb-Smen

Description:

As ‘servant in the place of truth’, Neb-Smen would have worked in the Theban necropolis, perhaps as a craftsman; Deir el-Medina was known as Set Maat, ‘the place of truth’. He is shown in the top half of the stela, kneeling with offerings before the pharaoh Amenhotep I and the Great Royal Wife Ahmose-Nefertari. Neb-Smen’s wife, sons and daughter are depicted in the bottom half.
