German Stosstruppen Armour

Description:
This kind of armour was worn by the Stosstruppen, 'Trench Raiders' - German troops trained to attack enemy trenches. The armour was designed to protect them through their initial assault crossing no mans land. Once the trenches had been reached and hand to hand combat began the armour, although often just the helmets, was disgarded.
