metal milk pail or 'luggie'

Description:

Metal milk pail with a flat handle at back rim.

 

Known locally as a 'luggie', these metal milking pails were used by milk maids.  Having milked by hand the milk was deposited into the 'luggie' before being poured into a milk butt for transporting or into a churn for processing into butter or cheese.
