Peat Cutting

Description:
The use of peat as a fuel is more commonly associated with Highland life but farming communities in the south west also utilised this resource.  This image was taken near Loch Doon on the border of Ayrshire and Dumfries & Galloway.  It was cheaper and more readily available to isolated farms than coal.
