Wigtown, like most towns, had its own brewery .  It was situated in Botany off High Vennel, just north of the main square.  It was in production by the 1820s and closed early in the 20th century.  Aitchisons was an Edinburgh brewery and may have had an interest in the Wigtown Brewery.
