Coronations

In past times, a coronation was a nationwide event. It is perhaps difficult to imagine the celebrations, as the last one was that of our present Queen, over fifty years ago. However, for a coronation, everyone was involved in the happy occasion, even small children who would dance in the street. Those with some money to spare invested in a television to watch the event; many households acquired their first television for this. Production lines were busy making commemorative items - everything from coins and medals to chocolate boxes and mugs - and town centres were hung with banners and flags to mark the event.
