Burgh Weights and Measures

6 of a Set of 11 Standard Capacity Kilmarnock Burgh Measures

Description:
Maintaining accurate standards of weights and measures has from earliest times underpinned the pursuit of commercial activity. The earliest burghs set up by the kings of Scotland were empowered to enforce these standards and fair trade. This remains the function of local authorities today.
