Extract of an entry in a register of Marriages

Marriage certificate for A G Kristiansen and M H W Farquhar, married in Dumfries, dated June 20th 1941.   Arnljot Kristiansen, a Sergeant in the Norwegian Army, and Mary (“Nellie”) Farquhar, a shorthand typist at the Ministry of Supply, Powfoot, married on 20 June 1941 at Oughtons Restaurant, Dumfries. When the Second World War started Oughtons Restaurant, opposite Burns Statue in Dumfries, was used by the Norwegian forces as offices, workshops and stores. Mary became a Norwegian citizen, and the couple settled in Bergen, Norway, when the war was over.
