Solway Trawler Boat of the 1890s

This 0.5 inch scale model in silver was made in 1896 by James Forrest of Glasgow.  The inscription reads, “Presented to Sir Robert T Reid, QC MP by Annan Waterfoot Fishermen in grateful recognition of his valuable services on behalf of their interests in the Solway. 21st April 1897”.   Sir Robert Threshie Reid was the Member of Parliament for the Dumfries Burgh from 1886 to 1905, he later became Lord Loreburn of Dumfries.   The port of Dumfries included Dumfries, Carsethorn, Kingholm Quay, Kelton and Glencaple.  At one time it stretched as far east as the River Annan and as far west as the River Urr.
