Sanquhar Lodging House bowl

Soup bowl with a white enamel covering and blue/black rim.   In the late 19th and early 20th centuries the rapid development of industry in Upper Nithsdale brought many workers to the area, often young single men.  The aims of the model Lodging House were to provide clean, well-managed accommodation at reasonable overnight charges.
