George Wright

George Wright (1851-1916) was born in Annan the second son of John and Margaret Wright, and attended Annan Public School before being apprenticed to local painter, decorator and sign writer John Clemenson. As with numerous artists of his time he was particularly inspired by his visits to Italy and Constantinople, but also produced some beautiful scenes of the Norwegian Fjords. But his first love was the hills and rivers of Scotland and in particular the areas around his home town of Annan.
