Palette belonging to James G Jeffs

Artist's palette for painting in oils.  The remains of various oil paints are left on the palette. Part of a collection of working tools of James G Jeffs (1904 = 1975).   In 1945 Jeffs and his wife moved to Kirkcudbright with their daughter, and Jeffs began teaching at the Academy there.  He converted a row of cottages into a home and studio and began developing his talents as an artist and craftsman.  For the last twenty years of his life he devoted all his time to these pursuits.
