Robert Burns

Serving Mugs of Dumfries Burns Club

Period:
19th Century
Description:

These serving mugs, along with a punch bowl, silver ladle and wine glasses were purchased by Dumfries Burns Club at the time of its foundation, in January 1820.

The items were used annually in the events to celebrate the birth of Robert Burns.  The mugs are decorated with images to match the punch bowl - a portrait of Burns and a drinking scene.  The inscription "We'll Tak A Cup O Kindness Yet For Auld Lang Syne" appears as a banner motif alongside a pair of clasped hands.
