Binding: green leather on board; tooled decoration; gold decoration on the spine; author, illustrator, volume, place and date on the spine; marbled end-papers; cream wove paper with gold edges.


Marks: Embossed "Burns Monument Kilmarnock", on title pages of both volumes. James McKie private library  numbers "141" & "142".


Illustration: Woodcuts by Thomas Bewick throughout both volumes, both vignettes and full-page images. Engraving of Burns after Nasmyth, facing title page of volume 1.
