Engraving of John Paul Jones, after a portrait by portrait and miniature painter Claude Jacques Notte (born Nantiel-sur-Marne). Dated 22nd July 1779 .

 

Jones is depicted during a battle at sea, in naval uniform, on a ship, with sword in one hand and guns at his waist. There is an inscription beneath, in French.
