Letter written by J M Barrie to Philip Sulley, secretary of the organising committee, declining an invitation to attend the Robert Burns Centenary events being planned for Dumfries in July 1896.

 

Holograph manuscript letter, written on one side with the address pre-printed at the top.

16 March '96

 

Dear Sir

I thank you sincerely for your kind invitation to the Burns centenary celebration; and I am very sorry that other arrangements prevent my coming north in July.  I hope all your efforts will be crowned with much success.
