This is the author's own copy, probably a specimen copy sent for the author's approval. Printed on vellum paper. Paper label on the spine printed in red. The illustrated frontispiece shows a print of a woman in a garden. The whole of the text block consists of the first four pages of chapter 1 repeated throughout.
It was sold at an Elkin Mathews Sale, February 1938 (part of Catalogue No 3), a few months after the author's death. The entry catalogue indicates:
3. AULD LICHT IDYLLS ... (3) Thistle Edition. A specimen volume of the Limited Edition on Jap vellum submitted to the Author, but not approved by him. Never issued in this form.
