Cross shaft, Glencairn

Period:
Early Medieval
Description:

Carved shaft of pink coarse sandstone.  This cross shaft came from the fabric of the old parish church of Glencairn.

The stylised curving animal design in the upper section is of Anglian Northumbrian design, and perhaps indicates the site of a former minster, predating the parish church.
