The Battle of Largs

Gold Berry Hill From Kilruskin

Period:
19th Century
Description:

Goldberry Hill near Largs was the site of one of the large skirmishes which made up the Battle of Largs.  It was here that a sizable force of Norwegians were put to flight by a troop of Scots led by Robert Boyd.

Alexander III rewarded Boyd with a grant of land within Cunningham.  Boyd's son (also named Robert) would become a friend and companion in arms with Sir William Wallace and is recorded as being the hero's second in command, he was also one of the principle commanders at the Battle of Bannockburn.
