Maxwelltown Soup Kitchen tokens

These tokens would have been exchanged for a meal at the Maxwelltown Soup Kitchen.   In 1905, the premises for the Maxwelltown Soup Kitchen was "an old house on Mitchell's Lane" (which ran from Market Street to the High Street, emerging just opposite what is now the Brigend Theatre).  The kitchen appears to have closed in 1927, when dontations were made to the ongoing Dumfries Soup Kitchen, and in 1934 a demolition order on the Mitchell Lane property was imposed.
