James VIII

Jacobite plate showing James, ‘The Old Pretender’, grandson of James II of Great Britain, pronouncing him as the rightful King of Scotland, England, France and Ireland! Both the Jacobite rebellion of 1715 and that led by his eldest son, Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie), in 1745 were intended to put James on the throne of Britain and restore the Stuart line as monarchs.
