Bush Model TV-12 Television

20th Century

This landmark television was introduced in 1948 and has a 9 inch screen. Its case is made from bakelite, an early plastic which allowed it to escape the wooden box like appearance of its competitors. This particular television was bought to watch Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation in 1953.

It is interesting to note that although we all know that black & white televisions like this were household items before colour ones, colour television systems were actually invented and patented before the mass produced black & white sets were even available!
