Shell Case

Empty shell case from the First World War, recycled as a decorative vase. Servicemen and prisoners of war used the debris of war to fashion objects like this vase. The custom became known as trench art, and continued after the war when local civilians produced souvenirs for sale to people visiting battlefields and cemeteries.
