New Masters

Now a completely new collection of portraits has been produced by photographer Andrew Dougan. They capture people who have a connection with Dumfries House Estate, either having worked and lived there for an important part of their lives, or having had memorable encounters with members of the Bute family.

The exhibition grew out of a Lottery-funded oral history project, and showcases a period between 1927 when George Porteous, a farm worker, was born, until as recently as 2005, when John Kirkland, a tractor man, retired. Their memories of their time on the estate were recorded in interviews by Dumfries House staff, and during the spring of 2009, they were for the first time, invited as a group to Dufries House.

Admission to the exhibition is free.
