February 2nd – April 28th

The sea, lochs and rivers have been subjects of interest for painters throughout the ages. They can offer spectacles of stillness and tranquillity or in contrast, movement and turmoil. Of particular interest has been the human presence – those enjoying boating as a relaxing pastime, sailors going about their workaday business or the dauntless seafarer defying the elements. This exhibition explores this theme and features paintings by Scottish, English and continental artists and it includes work by Eleanor Robertson, the Ayrshire artist who was a member of that group of pioneering women artists sometimes referred to collectively as the ‘Glasgow Girls’.
